| Due process | the constitutionally mandated procedural steps designed to eliminate error in any governmental deprivation of protected liberty, life, or property |
| Restorative Justice | An approach to corrective justice that focuses on meeting the needs of all concerned |
| Discretion | The authority to make a decision between two or more choices |
| Values | Judgements of desirability, worth, or importance |
| Ethics | The discipline of determining good and evil and defining moral duties |
| Procedural Justice | The component of justice that concerns the steps taken to reach a determination of guilt, punishment, or other conclusion of law. |
| Ethical dilemma | situations in which it is difficult for an individual to make a decision, either because the right course of action is not clear or because the right course of action carries some negative consequences |
| Ethical issues | Difficult social or policy questions that include controversy over the "right" thing to do |
| Morals | Principles of right and wrong |
| Justice | The quality of being impartial, fair, and just; from the Latin Justitia, concerning rules or law. |
| Impartiality | Not favoring one party or interest more than another. |
| Corrective justice | Justice that concerns when unfair advantage or unjust enrichment occurs (either through contract disputes or criminal actions) and what the appropriate remedy might be to right the wrong. |
