| Criminal conduct | a criminal act triggered by criminal intent |
| Affirmative defenses | Defendants have to 'start matters off by putting in some evidence in support" of their justification or excuse defense |
| perfect defenses | defenses in which defenders are acquitted if successful |
| imperfect defense | when a defendant fails in the full defense but is found guilty of a lesser offense |
| diminished capacity | a failure of proof defense in which the defendant attempts attempts to prove that the defendant, incapable of the requisite intent of the crime charged is innocent of the crime but may well be guilty of a lesser one |
| diminished responsibility | an excuse defense in which the defendant argues "what i did was wrong, but under the circumstances i am less responsible" |

| complicity | establishes when you can be liable for someone else's conduct |
| vicarious liability | transfers criminal conduct of one party to another because of their relationship |
