Meanings of words

Abrasion A cut or scrape that isn't serious
Abscess A fluid filled sack
Acute a condition that begins severe but ends fast
Benign NOT cancerous
Biopsy Small tissue taken in for testing
Chronic Happens a lot / recurring
Contusion A bruise
Defibrillator Makes heart beat again
Fracture Broken bone or cartiladge
Gland An organ or tissue that produces fluid to do a certain function
Hypertension High blood pressure
Inpatient Hospitalized patient
Edema Swelling caused by fluid
Embolism blockage, often caused by a blood clot
Vaccine A substance that helps immunity
Epidermis Outer layer of skin
Malignant Tells you cancerous cells are there
Outpatient A patient who receives care without being admitted to a hospital.
Prognosis The outcome of disease progression and treatment.
Relapse Return of disease or symptoms after a patient has recovered.
Sutures Stitches used to hold skin together as it heals
Transplant The removal of an organ or tissue from one body that is implanted into another.
Zoonotic disease A disease that is transmissible from animals to humans.
