Omeprazole

Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI)
What is Omeprazole used for? reduces gastric acid production and is commonly prescribed to treat conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and peptic ulcer disease.
When is Omeprazole used? omeprazole may be indicated to alleviate the patient's chronic epigastric burning and to prevent NSAID-induced gastric ulceration and bleeding.
What can Omeprazole help with? Omeprazole can help protect the gastric mucosa and promote healing of existing ulcers.
Directions Omeprazole 20 mg tablets can be sold to the public for the short-term relief of reflux-like symptoms (e.g. heartburn, acid regurgitation) in adults over 18 years, max. daily dose 20 mg for max. 14 days, and a pack size of 14 tablets.

Prescribing and dispensing information A proton pump inhibitor should be prescribed for appropriate indications at the lowest effective dose for the shortest period; the need for long-term treatment should be reviewed periodically.
Directions for administration in drink such as fruit juice or apple sauce, to disperse enteric-coated pellet-containing tablets (Losec MUPS®, Mezzopram®) or capules ;. being sure to rinse it down with half a glass of water. Chewing is not permitted for the enteric-coated pellets.
Directions for adminstration It is necessary to take enteric-coated tablets (Dexcel®) whole; do not chew or crush them. Consult the product documentation for reconstitution directions for oral suspension.
