Juvenile Justice Vocabulary Unit 3 History

TermDefinition
Juvenile Anyone under the age of 17, a minor
Delinquent A minor who has been charged with an act that would be a crime if committed by an adult
Delinquent Act Act committed by a minor that would be considered a crime according to adult law
Unruly Act Act committed by a minor that may be considered bad but NOT a crime according to adult law
Probable Cause Having reasonable info or evidence to do something (such as convict someone or suspect them of a crime)
Custody The act of being arrested and kept by law enforcement
Informal Adjustment Alternative to putting a minor through the trial process; allows them to be held accountable but with less formality
