Language of anatomy

Terminology

TermDefinition
Abdominal the part of the body of a vertebrate containing the digestive organs; the belly. In humans and other mammals, it is bounded by the diaphragm and the pelvis.
Antecubital Pertaining to, or situated in the anterior or inner part of the elbow
Auxiliary A person who is employed to assist other people in their work. Auxiliaries are often medical workers or members of the armed forces.
Brachial Relating to the arm or to a structure resembling the arm.
Buccal relating to the cheek.
Calcaneal large and strong bone that forms the back of the foot and transfers most of the body weight from the lower extremity to the ground.
Carpal relating to the bones forming the human carpus (
Cervical relating to the cervix.
Coxal Hip bone; Coxal bone; Pelvic bone. The coxal bone (hip bone, pelvic bone) is a large, flattened, irregularly shaped bone, constricted in the center and expanded above and below.
Digital the use of information and communications technologies in medicine and other health professions to manage illnesses and health risks and to promote wellness.
Femoral the use of information and communications technologies in medicine and other health professions to manage illnesses and health risks and to promote wellness.
Gluteal relating to the gluteus muscles.
Inguinal of the groin.
Lumbar relating to the lower part of the back.
Nasal of, for, or relating to the nose.
Occipital relating to or situated in the back of the head.
Olecranal the large process of the ulna that projects behind the elbow, forms the bony prominence of the elbow, and receives the insertion of the triceps muscle.
Oral Mouth region
Orbital he bony cavity that contains the eyeball.
Patellar The patellar tendon attaches the bottom of the kneecap (patella) to the top of the shinbone (tibia).
Pelvic a bowl-like structure that sits below the abdominal cavity.
Popliteal relating to or situated in the hollow at the back of the knee.
Sacral relating to the sacrum.
Tarsal a bone of the tarsus.
Thoracic relating to the thorax.
Umbillical relating to or affecting the navel or umbilical cord.
Vertebal The vertebral body is the main portion of the vertebra.
