Week3 prefixes vocab

QuestionAnswer
Gastrectomy- surgical removal of part or the whole stomach
Glossectomy- surgical removal of all or part of the tongue
Histology- the study of microscopic tissue
Hysterectomy- surgical removal of the womb (uterus)
Ileostomy- surgical operation in which a piece of the ileum is diverted to an artificial opening in the abdominal wall
Lacrimal fluid- fluid secreted by the lacrimal glands to lubricate the eye and fight bacteria
Lactose- a sugar present in milk
Laryngitis- inflammation of the larynx (voice box)
Lingual tonsil- a collection of lymphatic tissue located in the root of the tongue
Lipolysis- the breakdown of fats and other lipids by hydrolysis to release fatty acids
Lymphocyte- a type of white blood cells
Mammary glands- the milk producing gland of women or other female mammals
Menigitis- an inflammation of the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord
Musculoskeletal- relating to the musculature and skeleton together
Myelin- an insulating layer that forms around nerves
Nephron- the basic structural and functional unit of the kidney
Neuron- the fundamental units of the brain and nervous system
Oculomotor nerve- the third cranial nerve
Oocyte- a cell in an ovary which may undergo meiotic division to form ovum
Oophorectomy- surgical removal of one or both ovaries
