What is nutrition? The science that studies all aspects of food and its influence on our body and health.
What are the six nutrient groups? Carbohydrates, fats/lipids, proteins, vitamins, minerals, and water.
What are macronutrients? Nutrients that provide energy: Carbohydrates, fats, and proteins.
Carbohydrates have how many kcal per gram? 4
Proteins have how many kcal per gram? 4
Fats have how many kcal per gram? 9
Solid fats are? Butter, lard and margarine
Protein Supports? Tissue growth, repair and maintenance.
What are the two categories of minerals? Major Minerals and Trace Minerals
Definition of DRI Dietary Reference Intake
Definition of RDA Recommended Dietary Allowance
Hypothesis is: A possible explanation for an observation.
Prevalence refers to? The actual percentage of the population that has a particular disease at a given period of time.
Incidence refers to? The rate of new cases within a period of time.
Define Placebo? An imitation treatment that has no real effect on participants.
Bias is? Any factor that might influence a researcher to favor certain results.
Genes are? Regions of DNA that encode instructions for assembling specific proteins.
Phytochemicals Plant chemicals that are believed to have health-promoting properties when consumed.
