Content Area 1 Services and Provisions

TermDefinition
Regulation  An official rule, principle or condition that controls procedures or behaviours
Intervention  Involvement in a difficult situation in order to improve it or prevent it from getting worse
Individualised Care / Person Centred Care Care that is tailored to the specific needs, abilities, and preferences of the particular individual
Statuary Care Provisions funded by the Government through tax and national insurance e.g. NHS, 999 and schools
Voluntary Care Charities and non-for-profit organisations which put their donations back into research e.g. MIND, NSPCC and Age UK
Informal Care Unpaid care by family or friends e.g. transport, cooking or washing
Health care means Medical needs and physical health care often in clinics and hospitals
Social care means Emotional and social support involving social workers or occupational therapists
Provision is Supplying or providing a service
Private care Is a profit making business where people pay for care e.g. private hospitals or schools
Empowerment Allowing people to be independent, make decision/choices for themself and keep their skills.
Long-term needs Chronic or progressive conditions that will not get better or which will take a long recovery time
Short-term needs Often goal-orientated where there is an expectation of getting better
GP means General practitioner
Provisions that a hospital offers Health /wellbeing centres, A&E​, Treatment of infection/diseases, Operations and outpatient support.
Provisions that a GP surgery offers Advice & guidance, consultations, minor surgery, practice nurse, clinical advice and diagnostics and referrals
Triage an assessment of somebody' that checks the severity of their needs
Consultation an interaction where the patient has an opportunity to discuss and express their need/condition or issue.
A referral is accessing a service e.g. booking an appointment or being sent to a specialist.
An outpatient somebody that does not need to be admitted to hospital and stay over night for treatment.
Tonsillectomy surgical procedure to remove the tonsils.
Provisions a dentist offers Advice and guidance or oral hygiene, minor treatments and surgery or a referral to hospital or orthodontist.
Pharmacies provisions Non- emergency medical advice, dispensing and non-prescriptive medication
Clinic provisions Mobile screening, family planning services, addiction services and sexual health services
Rehabilitation support for the individual to develop and regain the abilities needed for daily life. ​ e.g. detoxification services, counselling and therapy.
Ambulance services Emergency assessment and transfer to hospital, Initial treatment to stabilise a condition and the Patient Transport service.
I provide long term, 24 hour care for adults, children and young people who have specific needs Residential care
I provide daily care for children and young people from birth to 18 years old. Foster care
Types of foster care include long term, short term, kinship, emergency, respite and therapeutic specialist care
Respite This is when the carer gets a break and rest from their role.
Kinship care or fostering from a family relative or close family friend
Hospice, sitting service, day centers and respite holidays are all types of what? Respite care
Community services Community centres, family centres and home care services
Domiciliary care is when someone supports the service user in their own home.
