CCMA CH 6 REVIEW (Body Systems - Urinary)

TermDefinition or Function
kidneys - located on either side of the vertebral column at the level of the top lumbar vertebrae - removes waste from the blood, producing urine
ureters - long tubes responsible for carrying urine from the kidneys to the urinary bladder
urinary bladder - small muscular sac located within the pelvic cavity - stores urine
urethra - tube responsible for carrying urine from the urinary bladder to the outside of the body - longer in males due to pelvic shape and prostate position
urinary system filters blood to remove waste products, which is prepared into urine
