| Term | Definition |

| Balanced line | a line up where there is an equal number of players on each side of the center |
| Hook /button hook | a common pass pattern where the receiver runs toward a defender, stops and turns quickly toward the quarterback. |
| Defensive team | the team without the ball |
| Fumble | when a player who has the ball loses control of it , causing it to fall to the ground. |
| Handoff | a play where the ball is handed to another player who attempts to run for a gain or yardage. |
| Line of scrimmage | an imaginary line where each team lines up and a “neutral zone” in between them. |
| Offsides | when a player on either team moves past their line of scrimmage before the ball is snapped by the center. |
