Canadian Health History

Hall Report Recommended that private health insurance companies be replaced by 10 provincial health insurance plans. Prompted the Canada Health Act replacing Hospital Insurance and Diagnostic Services Act and Medical Care Act
National Forum on Health This conference considered public input as an integral piece.
Lalonde Report (1974) New Perspective on the Health of Canadians identified biology, lifestyles, environment, and healthcare organizations as four elements that determine health. Beginning of health promotion. Heavily criticized.
The Epp Report (1986) Achieving Health for All: A Framework for Health Promotion reinforced the WHO’s goal of health for all by 2000. Identified three health-promotion challenges: 1) Reducing inequities 2) Increasing prevention 3) Enhancing Coping
Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion (1986) Marked the shift from traditional treatment and prevention health care to health-promotion strategies that feature empowerment.
