The Medical Model of Health | Health is the absence of one or more of the “five Ds.” Death, disease, discomfort, disability, and dissatisfaction |

The wellness model | emphasizes self-healing, the promotion of health, and the prevention of illness rather than solely the treatment of symptoms of disease. |
Disability Adjusted Life Year (DALY) | An estimate of the number of years lost due to ill health, disability, or early death. |
Burden of disease | Aims to quantify the gap between the ideal of living to old age in good health, and the current situation where healthy life is shortened by illness, injury, disability, and premature death |
Health-Related Quality of Life and Well-Being | Includes nonmedical factors that affect a person’s quality of life, including well-being |
