What is the ultimate goal of personal support work? To improve the quality of life of the client and family by offering support in a safe, kind, sensitive, caring and understanding manner.
How is compassionate care defined? What is another name for compassionate care? Also known as person centred care. Uses DIPPS principles: dignity, indpendence, preferences, privacy, safety.
Define ADLs Activities of Daily Living: self-care activities people perform daily to remain independent and to function in society.
Define IADLs Instrumental activities of daily living; The complex skills needed to successfully live independently.
Rehabilitation Restoring person to the highest possible level of functioning through the use of therapy, exercise, or other methods.
What are the five categories of a support worker's general responsibilities? personal care, support for nurses and other health care providers, family support, social support, housekeeping/home mgmt.
People who receive support services can be grouped according to their issues, needs, and ages. older adults, people with disabilities, people with medical issues, people having surgery, people with mental health issues, people needing rehabilitation, children, mothers and newborns, people requiring special care.
Three sources of information about PSWs scope of practice are? Educational program, employer's policies, supervisor.
What is a reflective practice? Self evaluation of care provided with goal of identifying ways to improve clinical performance and caregiving.
Critical thinking defined. Ability to think clearly and logically, using knowledge and reason obtained from experience, observation, education.
Professionalism involves 8 things. What are they? Positive attitude, sense of responsibility, professional appearance, discretion about client info, lifelong learning, advocating for client, discretion about personal matters, using acceptable speech, language.
When solving problems, consider the following: The goal of support work (should not compromise DIPPS), client's viewpoint (involve client), scope of practice, supervisor's viewpoint (can you handle it or should your spvsr).
