word parts, terms and abbreviations

TermDefinition
Subjective Patient reason for visit, description of problem, timing and previous medical and family history.
Objective The data collected by exams, labs and tests.
Assessment Diagnosis or Differential Diagnosis from results.
Plan Decision and action to handle patient by means of medicine, surgery or further treatment
Prophylaxis (pro-phy-lax-is) Preventive treatment. Prefix Pro-before, on behalf of. Root Prophylactic preventive measure.
Palliative (pal-li-a-tive) Treating symptoms not the cause. Palliation.
Sequelae (se-que-la) Problem resulting from disease of injury.
Etiology (eti-ol-o-gy) The cause. Logy suffix study of
Auscultation (aus-cul-ta-tion) To listen with stethoscope or other instrument.
Exacerbation (ex-ac-er-bate) To be getting worse. prefix ex out
