Geographical location | Issues with distance and location, village and town differences. Poor public transport, no car access, long journey times, discomfort while travelling. Car parking expenses for hospital visits. |
Socio-economic | Education, social background, effect choices people make about their health and wellbeing. |
Equality and diversity | Barriers such as unsuitable access, no ramps for wheelchairs, no provision for people with hearing impairments. Cultural/religious (e.g. appointments outside of prayer times) |
Communication | English as an additional language Age-appropriate language by professionals - considering adults with learning difficulties Use of jargon and acronyms by professionals. Alternative methods of communication |
Financial | Cost of transportation Cost of service - prescription charges, having to make a choice between the prescription and buying food or paying bills. Funding availability, reduced bus service due to low demand. |
Quality of care provision | Respect from professional. Preserving dignity, not giving people privacy when being examined or discussing their care with them. |
How provision can be adapted | Alternative formats - braille, large print, information in different languages. Community nurse, social workers and care workers can visit people at home if they have difficulty accessing services outside of the home. |
