| vaccination | injection of a weakened or mild form of a pathogen to produce immunity |

| sign | something that be detected by someone other than who is affected by the disease or illness |
| symptom | a change in body function that is felt by a patient as a result of disease |
| pathogen | an organism that causes disease |
| sexually transmitted infections (STIs) | disease that spreads from one person to another through intimate sexual contact |
| Disease | An abnormal state in which the body is not functioning normally |
| Infection | A condition that occurs when pathogens in the body multiply and damage body cells |
| Bacteria | a large group of one-celled organisms that sometimes cause disease |
| Virus | A tiny organism that invades and then reproduces inside a living cell. |

| antibodies | Protein that is produced by lymphocytes and that attaches to a specific antigen; Specialized proteins that aid in destroying infectious agent; Proteins that help destroy pathogens |
| cross contamination | The spreading of bacteria or other pathogens from one food to another . ie chicken and Pork. Using gloves when handling these foods are recommended. |
| direct Contact | Pathogens that pass from person to person by ...ie hand shaking. |
| pink eye | Infectious form of conjunctivitis caused by bacteria or virus, happens on the edge of the eye. |
