Reactive Depression A response to stressful events, such as death of a pet or friend
Chronic Stress associated with long term problems
Modeling Observing and learning from behaviors of those around you
Personality A complex set of characteristics that make you unique
Stress The reaction of the body and mind to everyday challenges and demands.
Anxiety Feeling uneasy or worried about what may happen.
Depression Prolonged feeling of helplessness hopelessness and sadness.
Psychosomatic response A physical reaction that results from stress rather than from an injury or illness
Emotions Signals that tell your mind and body how to react.
Constructive Criticism comments that point out problems and encourage improvement.
Phobia strong irrational fear of something specific.
Bipolar disorder Also known as manic depressive disorder. Marked by extreme mood changes, energy levels, and behavior.
Conduct disorder a pattern of behavior in which the rights of others or basic social rules are violated.
Resiliency The ability to adapt and recover from disappointment, difficulty, or crisis.
Panic disorder Sudden, unexplained feelings of terror
Schizophrenia Disorder in which a person loses contact with reality.
Mourning The act of showing sorrow or grief
Obsessive compulsive disorder In this disorder a person is trapped in a pattern of repeated thoughts or behaviors.
Mental Disorder An illness of the mind that affects the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
5 Stages of Grief Denial-can't believe it, Anger-Feeling powerless and unfairly deprived, Bargaining-promises if only what was lost can be returned, Depression-isolation, alienation, hopelessness, Acceptance-A sense of power, allowing the person to face reality
Hierarchy of Needs Self-actualization-morality, creative, problem solving, Esteem-confidence, Belongingness-love, friendship, intimacy, family, Safety-security, Physiological-air, food, water, sleep

Fight, Flight or Freeze resist an attack, run fast and far to escape, mind goes blank
Empathy and Sympathy imagine and understand how someone else feels, caring and understanding for the suffering of others

List and describe 3 eating disorders Anorexia-eat very little and become dangerously underweight, Bulimia-binge eat and then throw up, Binge eating disorder-recurrent episodes of binge eating to the point of discomfort
