Personal Hygiene

QuestionAnswer
How can bacteria be passed onto people? Coughing, scratching, touching hair, rubbing your face, sneezing, not washing your hands and picking spots.
Personal hygiene is important because? It reduces the number of bacteria that lives on us
How many times should you brush your teeth daily? twice.
What are the different methods of maintaining good personal hygiene? Brushing your teeth, washing your face, having a shower/bath, washing hair regularly and keeping your fingers/toe nails clean and trimmed.
What does our boys use to stop bacteria entering the body? Skin, tears, mucus and stomach acid
Too much bacteria can do what? Damage the first line of defense and allow an infection to grow.
What does bacteria do? It can attack the body tissue or release poisons which make us feel ill.
Food poisoning, tetanus, sore throats, tuberculosis (TB), whooping cough, meningitis and syphilis are all what? These are illnesses caused by bacteria.
What category of people are less resistant to disease and therefore can suffer more? Young babies and older people
People in wheelchairs or people who are immobile (bed-bound) can develop what? Ulcers on skin which makes contact with hard surfaces
What happens when pressure is applied to an ulcer? Severe discomfort, blood poisoning, tissue decay and even death
How can we prevent ulcers on the skin? Keep their skin clean and dry. Move their body positions regularly into different positions.
What conditions do bacteria need to grow? correct warm temperatures and sites that are moist.
Why is it important for cares to have good hygiene e.g. fresh clean breath and no sweaty body odour? To prevent spreading it to care users/patients and keep good relationships with people they support.
