What does blood pressure measure? a measure of the pressure exerted by the blood as it flows through the arteries,
Name two possible problems of the cardiovascular system Aorta disease and Marfan syndrome. Congenital heart disease.
Define anemia and describe one way to avoid this condition a low number of red blood cells. take Iron supplements and make dietary changes. Get plenty of rest
Name three problems that can affect the lymphatic system Immune deficiency, tonsillitis, Hodgkin Disease
Define Internal respiration The exchange of gases between blood and body cells
Define External respiration. The exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide that takes place between the air and blood in the lungs.
Explain how the diaphragm allows breathing to occur When you breathe in, or inhale, your diaphragm contracts and moves downward.
How does gas exchange take place in the lungs? nhaled oxygen moves from the alveoli to the blood in the capillaries, and carbon dioxide moves from the blood in the capillaries to the air in the alveoli.
What is the role of cilia? protect the nasal passageways and other parts of the respiratory tract, filtering out dust and other particles that enter the nose through the breathed air.

What are two strategies you can use to maintain the health of your respiratory system? Get good exercise, rest and healthy diet
Name two irritants that can cause bronchitis. secondhand smoke, air pollution, and chemical fumes or dusts from the environment or workplace.
Describe pneumonia and name two causes of this disease. inflammation of the airspaces in the lungs, most commonly due to an infection. Pneumonia may be caused by viral infections, bacterial infections. The most common bacterial type that causes pneumonia is Streptococcus pneumoniae.
Describe what happens during an asthma attack. Involuntary contractions of smooth airway muscles that leads to wheezing, chest tightness, and difficulty breathing.
Describe the symptoms and treatment of tuberculosis. Symptoms: Cough fever, fatigue, and weight loss Treatment: antibiotics and hospitalization

What is peristalsis? Why is it essential to the process of digestion? a series of involuntary muscle contraction that move food through the digestive tract. It is essential to move food and fluid through each hollow organ
What are the three functions of the stomach in the digestion process? After the food passes through the esophagus, it enters the stomach where chemical digestion occurs. The stomach churns and mixes food. After being in the stomach for 2-3 hours, the food moves to the next step in the digestive process.
What organ produces bile? What is the function of bile? made by the liver to assist in breaking down food.
Explain the role of the small intestine in the digestive process. function of the small intestine is absorption of nutrients and minerals from food.
Describe two behaviors that can help maintain the health of the digestive system? Eat a well balanced diet, eat slowly, Wash your hands when preparing food, Drink 8-8 ounce glasses of water
Describe indigestion and name two causes of indigestion A feeling of discomfort in the upper abdomen. Indigestion is caused by eating too fast and too much, also by eating spicy or high fat foods.
Why should laxatives only be used when recommended by a health care provider? Long-term use of laxatives can make you dependent on laxatives to go to the bathroom and may mask important constipation symptoms. Laxatives can interfere with how other medications are absorbed.
What are the symptoms of appendicitis? What are the possible treatments? pain in your upper abdomen or around your bellybutton. pain in the lower right side of your abdomen.loss of appetite. indigestion.nausea.vomiting. The treatment is removal of appendix
What are the symptoms of a peptic ulcer? What are two of the causes of peptic ulcers? a sore in the lining of the digestive tract, caused by regular use of anti inflammatory drugs
What are the main components of urine? water and body wastes that contain oxygen
Describe the structure of nephron. Where are the nephrons found? Nephrons are tiny filtering units in the kidney
What are ureters? What is their functions? They are the tubes that connect the kidney to the bladder.
Describe the symptoms of urethritis? inflammation of the urethra
Explain how hemodialysys can be used to treat kidney problems. artificial kidney machine removes the waste products from the blood.
