| What is Mens Rea | a guilty mind or intent |
| What is a felony? | A crime punishable by imprisonment for no less than a year |
| What are the 4 elements of a crime? | Mens rea, actus reus, causation, concurrence |
| Four categories of mens rea | intent, knowledge, recklessness, criminal negligence |
| intent | the conscious desire to commit an illegal act |
| knowledge | a person is aware that their actions will have negative results but does not care |
| recklessness | consciously taking a risk that a responsible person wouldn't normally take |
| criminal negligence | a persons failure to meet a reasonable standard of care for their lives and safety of others |
| what is the penal code? | the written, organized, and complied form of the criminal laws of a jurisdiction |
| what is a misdemeanor? | a less serious crime usually punished by confinement for less than one year, by fine, or both |
| what is larceny? | Theft of personal property |
| what are white collar crimes? | offenses committed in the business world that do not involve force or violence and do not cause physical injury or damage to property. |
