TermDefinition
Mental disorder A wide range of conditions that affect mood, thinking, and behavior.
Anxiety a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome.
Anxiety disorder characterized by feelings of worry, anxiety, or fear that are strong enough to interfere with one's daily activities
Phobia an extreme or irrational fear of or aversion to something.
Obsession being obsessed with someone or something.
Compulsion the action or state of forcing or being forced to do something; constraint.
Mood disorder a psychological disorder characterized by the elevation or lowering of a person's mood, such as depression or bipolar disorder.
Depression feelings of severe despondency and dejection.
Schizophrenia (in general use) a mentality or approach characterized by inconsistent or contradictory elements.
Personality disorder a deeply ingrained pattern of behavior of a specified kind that deviates markedly from the norms of generally accepted behavior, typically apparent by the time of adolescence.
Eating disorder any of a range of psychological disorders characterized by abnormal or disturbed eating habits (such as anorexia nervosa).
Anorexia nervosa an emotional disorder characterized by an obsessive desire to lose weight by refusing to eat.
Bulimia an eating disorder in which a large quantity of food is consumed in a short period of time, often followed by feelings of guilt or shame.
Binge eating disorder the consumption of large quantities of food in a short period of time, typically as part of an eating disorder.
Clinical depression characterized by persistently depressed mood or loss of interest in activities, causing significant impairment in daily life.
Cutting self-harm
Suicide the intentional killing of oneself.
Cluster Suicide suicides that occur within a short period of time in the same peer group
Psychiatrist a physician who can diagnose and treat mental disorders.
Neurologist a physician who treats physical disorders of the nervous system.
Clinical psychologist a mental health professional who is trained to reconized and treat behavior that is not normal
Psychiatric social worker a mental professional who helps people with mental disorders and their families to accept and adjust to a illness.
