Exam and treatment patient positions

TermDefinition
Supine/ Horizontal Recumbent Position Lay on back, legs extended, arms above head. Common for physical examination.
Dorsal recumbent Position Lay on back, knee flexed, and flat feet.
Full Fowler's Bed at 90 degrees
Semi- Fowler's Bed at 45 degrees
Dorsal Lithotomy Position Exam position for pelvic organs. legs separated on stirrups.
Prone position Lay on stomach, examine back, amputee position to straighten limb. Not for patients with breathing trouble.
Sim's position Lay on left side with right knee flexed against stomach, left knee slightly flexed. Rectum exam
knee chest position rectal and vaginal exam , lazy downward dog
Trendelenburg head and feet at 45 degree angle. stabilizing someone about to faint, primarily for pelvis and abdomen surgery.
