Cholesterol | waxy, fat-like substance that is found only in animal products |
Trans Fats | made when manufactueres add hydrogen to the fat molecules in vegetable oil |
Proteins | Can serve as a source of energy |
Amino Acids | Long chains of smaller "links" that are bound together - anything that comes from animals |

Fat Soluble Vitamins | Dissolve fatty material and can build up to dangerous levels A,D,E, and K |

Antioxidants | Protect healthy cells from damange caused by the aging process, and protect again cetain types of cancer |
Minerals | needed in small amounts which are nutrients |
Calcium | A mineral - helps with blood clotting, nervous system, bones and teeth |
Iron | Necessary for healthy red blood cells |
Anemia | A condition in which red blood cells do not contain enough hemoglobin |
Water | Makes up 65% of body; aides digestion, coold the body (sweating), removes wastes, lubricates your joints, cusions eyes, brain, and spinal cord |

Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) | The rate at which you use energy when your body is at rest |
Body Composition | The measure of how much body fat you have, as compared to muscle and bone |
Body Mass Index (BMI) | Ratio of weight to height |
Over weight | A term used to describe a person who is heavier than the standard for that person's height |
Obesity | BMI over 30 |
Underweight | Lighter than the standard for that person's height |
Eating Disorder | A mental disorder |
Anorexia Nervosa | Does not eat enough food to maintain a healthy body weight; can stave to death; heart can stop suddenly |
Bulimia | Go on controlled eatin binges followed by purging, or removing, the food from their bodies |
Health Risks of Bulimia | Dehydration, kidney damage, and a lack of necessary vitamins and minerals |
Binge Eating Disorder | Regularly have an uncontrollable urge to eat large amounts of food |
