hepatitis inflammation of the liver caused by a virus

pancreatitis a rare disease causing the pancreas to become inflamed
aerophagia swallowing excess amounts of air
hematemesis vomiting of blood
hyperemesis extreme or persistent vomiting
emesis the process of vomiting
jaundice yellow discoloration of the skin caused by bile pigments in the blood
dyspepsia pain or discomfort in digestion
regurgitation the backward flow of food up the digestive passageway
nausea the urge to vomit
eructation belching
pancreatalgia pain in the pancreas
cholesystalgia gallbladder pain
cholecystitus inflammation of the gallbladder
cholelithiasis the condition in which gallstones are present in the gallbladder or bile duct
bariatrics branch of medicine dedicated to obesity issues
body mass index (BMI) a calculated value used to define obesity
gastric bypass surgical procedure for reducing stomach size
obesity when excess body fat reaches an extent that may have an adverse effect on health
morbid obesity life-threatening condition of severe obesity
colectomy surgical removal of part or all of the colon
gastrectomy surgical removal of part or all of the stomach
gastroduodenostomy surgical removal of the lower portion of the stomach where it connects with the duodenum, then reattachment of the duodenum
hepatectomy surgical removal of all or part of the liver
ileectomy surgical removal of the ileum
nasogastric intubation placement of a tube through the nose and into the stomach
