epidemic a widespread occurrence of an infectious disease in a community at a particular time.
Abstinence Abstinence is the choice not to have sex. This method is 100% effective in preventing pregnancy and infection as long as all sexual contact is avoided, including vaginal, oral, and anal sex.
H.I.V a virus that attacks the immune system, which is our body’s natural defence against illness
A.I.D.S not a virus but a set of symptoms (or syndrome) caused by the HIV virus.
P.I.D Pelvic inflammatory disease
gonorrhea A sexually transmitted bacterial infection that, if untreated, may cause infertility.
herpes simplex A virus causing contagious sores, most often around the mouth or on the genitals.
chlamydia A common sexually transmitted infection that may not cause symptoms.
syphilis bacterial infection usually spread by sexual contact that starts as a painless sore.
trichomoniasis A sexually transmitted infection caused by a parasite.
hepatitis B A serious liver infection caused by the hepatitis B virus that's easily preventable by a vaccine.
vaccine A vaccine is a biological preparation that provides active acquired immunity to a particular disease.
scabies A contagious, intensely itchy skin condition caused by a tiny, burrowing mite.
