QuestionAnswer
Absorption The moving of nutrients from the digestive system to the circulatory system.
Digestion The breaking down of food into nutrients.
Metabolism The process of cells using nutrients for energy and other needs.
Nutrient The basic unit of food that the body can use.
Calorie The unit used to measure the amount of energy in foods.
Carbohydrate A nutrient needed mostly for energy.
Protein A nutrient needed for growth and repair of the body tissues.
Fiber The parts of food that the body cannot digest.
Amino acid The smaller units of protein.
Complete protein A protein that has all nine essential amino acids.
Cholesterol A waxy, fatlike substance found in animal products.
Polyunsaturated fat A fat that is found mostly in plant foods.
Saturated fat A fat that is found mostly in animal products.
Mineral A nutrient from the earth that is needed to help the body use energy from other nutrients.
Vitamin A nutrient need to help the body use energy from other nutrients.
Food guide pyramid A chart that can be used to choose a healthy diet.
Serving size A way to measure the amount of different foods that should be eaten each day.
