What is obesity? the condition of being overweight
What are carbohydrates? sugars and starches found in food
What are proteins? nutrients that help build and maintain body tissues
What are nutrients? substances in food that one's body needs to function properly to grow, to repair itself, and to supply one with energy
What is nutrition? the process in which the body takes in and uses food
What is appetite? desire to eat
What is hunger? a natural drive that protects one from starvation
What is overweight? above the weight considered normal or desirable
What are vitamins? compounds that helps regulate vital body processes
What are minerals? inorganic substances that the body cannot manufacture but regulate many vital processes
What is glucose? a simple sugar and the body's fuel
What is glycogen? a starch-like substance
What is cholesterol? a fatlike substance produced in the liver of all animals
What is fiber? a special form of complex carbohydrate
What is saturated fat? a fatty acid that holds all the oxygen atoms it can
What is unsaturated fat? a fatty acid missing one or more pairs of hydrogen atoms
What is water? a colorless, flavorless, odorless, tasteless, transparent liquid that is the basis of the fluids in a living organism
What are enriched foods? food products in which nutrients have been added
What is a calorie? the energy it takes to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water 1 degree Celsius
