STD vocabulary

TermDefinition
Sexually transmitted diseases Infections that spread from person to person through sexual contact.
Human papillomavirus a virus that causes genital warts and warts on other parts of the body
Genital warts soft, moist, pink or red swellings that appear on the genitals and are caused by the human papillomavirus.
Chlamydia an STD that is caused by the bacterium.
Pelvic inflammatory disease a painful infection of the uterus, Fallopian tubes, and / or ovaries.
Gonorreah an STD caused by bacteria that live in warm, moist areas of the body, such as mucous membranes.
Genital herpes an STD caussed by the herpes simplex virus. Herpes simplex 1 usually causes cold sores in or near the mouth.
Hepatitis B a viral STD that attacks the liver and can cause extreme illness and death.
Syphilis an STD caused by the bacterium, it progresses in stages.
Vaganitis an imflammation of the vagina caused by various organisms.
Trichomoniasis a type of vainitis caused by the paracite trichomoniasis vaginalis it affects male and females.
Bactireal vaginosis a type of vaginitis caused by an imballence of bactirea normally found in the vagina.
Pubic lice tiny parisitic insects, also known as crabs, that infect the genital area of humans.
Scabies an infestation of with microscopic mites called sarcoptes scabiei.
