| Medicine | a legal drug that helps the body fight injury,illness, or disease |
| Addiction | the drinker has no control over his/her drinking |
| Physical dependence | when you think that you need a drug to function |
| Psychological dependence | mentally craving a drug |
| Withdrawal | group of symptoms that occur when a dependent person stops taking a drug |
| Tolerance | with repeated use of alcohol, its effects in the brain become reduced in which the body has developed tolerance |
| Synergistic | occurs when drugs interact to produce effects greater than those that each drug would produce alone |
| Anatagonist | occurs when each drugs effect is canceled out or reduced by the other |
| Drug use | the use of drugs |
| Drug misuse | using legal drugs in a harmful way |
| Drug abuse | over doing drugs |
| Prescription drugs | a drug that can be obtained only with a written order from a doctor |
| OTC drugs | drugs that are legally sold at pharmacies but they are no prescribed by the doctor |

| Depressants | drug that slows down brain and body reactions |
| Hallucinogens | drug that distorts perception, thoughts, and mood |

| Steroids | to increase muscle size and strenght |

| Emphysema | a disorder in which alveoli in the lungs can no longer function properly |
