| Medicine | are legal drugs that help the body fight injuries, illnesses, or diseases |
| addiction | having control over our thoughts by making us crave or have a strong emotional need towards something. |
| physical dependence | physically needing a drug to function normally |
| psychological dependence | mentally craving a drug |
| withdrawal | a group of symptoms that occur when a dependent person stops taking a drug |
| tolerance | causing the body to need increasingly larger amounts |
| drug interactions | when a person takes more than one drug at a time, the drugs may interact |
| synergistic | occurs when drugs interact to produce effects greater than those that each drug would produce alone |
