What is mental, emotional, and social health? Your ability to deal in a reasonable way with the stress and changes of daily life.
What is stress? Your body's response to change. 1. Distress (bad) 2. Eustress (good)
What is conflict? A disagreement or argument between two or more people with different views (or could be internal)
Who influences the decisions you make? Family Friends Education Religion Media/celebrities
How can you relieve stress? Playing games, sports, drawing, listening to music, a stress ball, or reading
List some emotions. Sad, happy, mad, embarrassed, scared, disgusted, etc.
Where can you get help if you suspect someone is at risk for either suicide or self injury? -parent, guardian, or other family member -teacher -school nurse -guidance counselor -religious leader -mental health professional -confidential hotline
What are some forms of self injury? punching, hitting, scratching, choking, biting, picking at wounds, burning, stabbing, self-poisoning, cutting, etc.
What are signs of suicide? -Talking about death or methods of suicide -avoiding activities involving family/friends -showing a level of energy -taking greater risks than usual -losing interests in hobbies, sports, or school -giving away prized or personal expressions
What are the steps in the decision making model? D-determine the problem E-examine the possible choices C- consider the consequences for each choice (good and bad) I- Identify you values (what is important to you) D- Decide and act E- Evaluate your decision (good or bad)
Be able to describe both positive and negative approaches to resolving conflict. negative: ignore it, run away, throw a tantrum, make fun of someone, physical violence Positive: talk it out, listen, identify the cause, trade places, cool off, compromise
Know where most people tend to self injure and why. Arms, legs, abdomen, and inner thighs because these placed can be easily covered up.
What are emotions? feelings you have in response to thoughts, remarks, and events.
Why do people self-injury? It feels like it gives them adrenaline and endorphins that your body gives out when you get hurt.
