The Heart Vocabulary

Vocabulary on the heart and circulatory system.

TermDefinition
Blood Vessels Blood vessels are tubes that carry blood throughout the body. Examples of a blood vessel are veins,arteries, or capillaries.
Arteries Carry blood away from the heart.
Veins Carry blood to the heart.
Capillaries Exchange
Apex Is the bottom point of your heart
Base The top part of your heart
Valves Valves open up to let the blood flow forward and close quickly to keep the blood from moving backwards.
Atrium The atria fills with blood than pumps it to the ventricles.
Ventricles Ventricle pump blood out of the heart by contracting.
Septum Thick wall of muscle that separates the left and right side of the heart.
Circulation Circulation is the movement of blood throughout the heart.
