What is the definition of digestion? the process of breaking down food by mechanical and enzymatic action in the alimentary canal into substances that can be used by the body
What is the definition of digestive system? the system by which ingested food is acted upon by physical and chemical means to provide the body with absorbable nutrients and to excrete waste products
What is the definition of saliva? watery liquid secreted into the mouth by glands, providing lubrication for chewing and swallowing, and aiding digestion
What is the definition of enzymes? a substance produced by a living organism that acts as a catalyst to bring about a specific biochemical reaction
What is the definition of small intestine? the part of the intestine that runs between the stomach and the large intestine
What is the definition of colon? the main part of the large intestine which passes from the cecum to the rectum, and absorbs water and electrolytes from food that has remained undigested
What is the definition of pancreas? a large gland behind the stomach that secretes digestive enzymes into the duodenum
What is the definition of liver? a large lobed glandular organ in the abdomen of vertebrates, involved in many metabolic processes
What is the definition of excretion? the process of eliminating or expelling waste matter
What is the definition of excretory system? a passive biological system that removes excess unnecessary materials from the body fluids of an organism, so as to help maintain internal chemical homeostasis and prevent damage to the body
What is the definition of kidneys? each of a pair of organs in the abdominal cavity of mammals, birds, and reptiles, excreting urine
