drug A chemical substance that is taken to cause changes in a persons body or behavior
medicine a legal drug that helps the body fight injury, illness, or disease
addiction The state of losing control over the use of a drug; it is accompanied by a strong craving for the drug
dependance the condition that resulth when the brain devlops a chemicalnee for a drug and cannot function normally without it.
withdrawal a group of symptoms that occur when a dependent person stops taking a drug
tolerance the condition that results when repeated use of a drug causes it to have less of an effect on the brain.
drugin interactions is a situation in which a substance (usually another drug) affects the activity of a drug when both are taken together.
drug misuse the improper use of medicines- either perscripition or over the counter drugs
drug abuse the intentional improper or unsafe use of a drug
prescription durgs a drug that can be obtained only with a written order from a doctor and can be purchased only at a pharmacy.
over the counter drugs (OTC) a medicine that is sold legally in pharmacies and other stores without a doctor's perscription
stimulants a type of drug that increases the activity of the nurves system
depressants a drug that slows the brain and body reactions.
hallucinogens a drug that distorts perception, thought and mood.
club drugs drugs that first gained popularity at dance clubs and reves
inhalants a breathable chemical vapor that produces mind altering effects
marijuana a drug made from the leaves stems and flowering tops of the hemp plant
Zero Tolerance Law a policy that enforces strict consequences for underage drinking
reverse tolerance a condition in which less and less alcohol causes intoxication.
BAC/BAL blood alcohol concentration and blood alcohol level
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome a group of birth defects caused by the effects of alcohol on an unborn child
FDA Food and Drug Administration
Tar a dark sticky substance that forms when tobacco burns.
Nicotine an extremely addictive chemical in tobacco products.
Carbon Monoxide a poisonous ,colorless, odorless gas produces when substances are burned
Second Hand Smoke a combination of mainstream and sidestream smoke: also known as environmental tobacco smoke
Side Stream Smoke smoke that goes directly into the air from a burning tobacco product
Main Stream Smoke Smoke that is exhaled from a smokers lungs
