Health Vocab Alcohol

TermDefinition
Alcohol A colorless, flammable liquid.
Depressant Drugs that slow down body functions and reactions
Inhibition The mental process that controls your actions, emotions, and thoughts.
Central Nervous System (CNS) System that consists of the brain and spinal cord.
Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) The amount of alcohol in the bloodstream.
Intoxication The physical and mental changes caused by drinking alcohol.
Tolerance When a person needs more and more of a drug to feel the same effects.
Alcohol Poisoning The damage to your body caused by drinking too much alcohol.
Alcoholism A disease in which a person is physically and mentally dependent on alcohol.
Binge Drinking Drinking a large amount of alcohol in a short amount of time.
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) Birth defects that occur to the unborn baby if a pregnant woman drinks.
Hangover The uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms that occur after drinking alcohol.
Withdrawal The way the body responds when a drug is no longer used.
Good Samaritan Law A law that protects people who try to help another person.
Cirrhosis Disease of the liver caused by alcohol abuse.
