Health and Physical Education terms

TermDefinition
Health Level of functional or metabolic efficiency of a living organism.
Wellness Generally used to mean a healthy balance of the mind, body and spirit that results in an overall feeling of well-being
Diet Sum of food consumed by a person or other organism
Body Mass Index Index for assessing overweight and underweight, obtained by dividing body weight in kilograms by height in meters squared: a measure of 25 or more is considered overweight.
Eating Disorder Any of various disorders, as anorexia nervosa or bulimia, characterized by severe disturbances in eating habits.
Mental Health Psychological well-being and satisfactory adjustment to society and to the ordinary demands of life
Muscular System All the muscles of the body collectively, especially the voluntary skeletal muscles.
Obesity The condition of being very fat or overweight; corpulence
Pregnancy The state, condition, or quality of being pregnant.
STD Sexually transmitted disease
