Key Terms for 1.5 Sexuality
Term | Definition |

Sex | 'A person's sex' - meaning whether they are male or female. or 'having sex' - meaning to have sexual intercourse or be involved in other physically intimate behaviours of a sexual nature |
Sexuality | Peoples attitudes, values, beliefs and feelings about being male or female, their relationships, their sexual behaviour, their sexual identity and orientation. |
Sexual Behaviour | The actions and behviours of a sexual nature that a person engages in |
Sexual Identity | This is what a person chooses to identify as sexually |
Homosexual | A person attracted to the same sex |
Heterosexual | A person attracted to the opposite sex |
Bisexual | A person attracted to the both males and females |
Celibacy | Abstaining from sexual intercourse (for a period of time). 'Abstain' means to stay away from. The person may or may not have had sex in the past |
Virgin | Someone who has never had sexual intercourse |
Transgender | Someone who behaves, dresses and lives as the gender which is different from the sex they were born - men living as women, or women living as men |
Monogamous | A person who has a sexual relationship with one person at a time |
Non-monogamous | A person who is sexually involved with more than one person at a time |
Promiscuous | A person who is casual and unrestrained in terms of their sexual behaviour |
