referral authorization issued by a PCP to a referred provider.
referring physician a physician who refers a patient for a service or supply that they cannot directly provide.
registered nurse (RN) a graduate nurse who has been legally authorized (registered) to practice; licensed by a state board of nurse examiners.
reproductive system system responsible for human reproduction in both males and females.
the reproductive system includes ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, vagina, and mammary glands and the organs of the female reproductive system; the testes, scrotum, penis, vas deferens and prostate are the organs of the male reproductive system.
resident physician a physician who has finished medical school and his internship and is receiving training in a specialized area.
respiratory system system responsible for delivering oxygenated blood to all parts of the body; the pharynx, larynx, nasal cavity, oral cavity, trachea, lungs, bronchus, bronchioles, and alveoli are the main organs of the respiratory system.
staff physician see attending physician.
urea a nitrogen-containing substance normally cleared from the blood by the kidney into the urine.
urinalysis (UA) a group of tests performed on a urine sample.
urinary system system responsible for aiding in the process of secreting and eliminating urine; the urethra, bladder, ureters, and kidneys are the main parts of the urinary system.
urology the study of conditions related to the urinary tract.
venipuncture the puncturing of a vein for any medical purpose.
