Carbohydrates Main source of energy; sugar and starches contained in foods
Proteins Builds muscle, growth ( provides the building blocks your body needs for growth)
Fats Stored energy, skin healthy (found in fatty animal tissue and plant oils)
Vitamins Regulates body functions and fights germs
Minerals Strong bones and teeth, healthy blood, makes body work properly- heart/organs
Water Digestion removes waste, cools you off- prevents dehydration *8 or more glasses each day
What types of food goes in the nutrient Carbohydrates? Simple- fruits, milk (sugars) Complex- bread, rice, pastas, potatoes (starches)
What types of food goes in the nutrient Proteins? fish, chicken, beef, eggs, milk, peas, beans, nuts, peanut butter
What types of food goes in the nutrient Fats? Salad dressings, cookies, fried foods, butter, oils
What types of food goes in the nutrient Vitamins? Fruits, vegetables, oranges, carrots, broccoli, whole grain breads
