Term | Definition |

Mental Health | Generally having a positive outlook, being comfortable with you and others and being able to handle daily challenges and demands. |
Competence | Having enough skills to do something. |
Self Esteem | The confidence and worth that you feel about yourself. |
Character | The distinctive qualities that describe how a person thinks, feels, and behaves. |
Self Talk | The talk you give yourself, in your head, daily. Goal is to keep it positive. |
Constructive Criticism | Messages given to help improve your behavior and you as a person. |
Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs | Ranked list of needs essential to human growth and development, from basic needs to independent living. |
Physical Needs | The need to satisfy hunger, thirst, sleep, clothing and shelter |
Mental | Of or relating to the mind |
Integrity | A firm observance of core ethical values. |
Self-Actualization | Throughout life, setting goals and striving to be the best you can be. |
Personality | A complex set of characteristics that make you unique and set you apart from everyone else. |
Hormones | Chemicals produced by your glands that regulate the activities of different body cells. |
Resource | A source of support |
Crucial | Important or essential |
Role Model | Someone whose success or behavior serves as an example or mentor for you. |
Personal Identity & behaviors | Your sense of yourself as a unique individual, with the ability to make decisions & choices. |
Emotions | Signals that tell your mind and body how to react. |
Resilient | The ability to bounce back and recover from disappointment, difficulty or a crisis. |
Empathy | The ability to imagine and understand how someone else feels. "Walk in Someone Else's Shoes". |
Hostility/ Chronic Hostility | The intention use of unfriendly or nasty behavior. Chronic-Continues over time, increases chance of heart disease and cancer if anger is not dealt with. |
Defense Mechanisms | Strategies used to deal with strong or stressful emotions or situations. Can keep people form dealing with real issues. |
