what is suicide? THe action and willingness to kill yourself.
What part of the body does it affect? It has been suggested that the key to preventing suicide is not in the study of the brain, but in the direct study of the human emotions.
How is this disease affecting society? Every eighty seconds a teenager attempts to take their own life, once every 100 minutes a teen actually completes a suicide. After car accidents and murder, suicide is the third leading cause of death in the United States, Results 4,600 deaths each year.
What are the symptoms? A sensitivity to particular life events reflecting signals of defeat, the sense of being trapped, insufficient capacity to solve problems, the absence of rescue factors,feelings of hopelessness.
What are the risk factors (causes)? •Unresolved abuse from past. •Feeling "trapped" or things will never "get better." •Feeling helpless •A feeling of not being accepted by family/friends or society. •Feeling like one has not lived up high expectations anothers. •Bullying.
What are Suicide Warning Signs? Talking about suicide- Any talk about suicide, dying, or self-harm, Seeking out weapons- Seeking access to guns, pills, knives. No hope for future- Feelings of hopelessness,and being trapped. Self-loathing, -Feelings of worthlessness, guilt.
what type of method of suicide most common? Hanging is the leading method of suicide worldwide
How many people kill themselves from suicide a year? more than 30,000 people a year in the united states.
