what is Alcholism? Alcoholics have no control over their drinking. They drink to escape from reality. When something unpleasant happens to them, they get drunk to avoid dealing with it.
How is the disese affecting society? Alcoholism creates problems for the drinker, the drinker’s family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors. It affects many lives.
Who gets it? Men and women under the age of eighteen. Anyone can be an alcoholic.
What part of the body does it affect? Liver, eyes, hands, legs, heart
Overview of the Disease It’s a drinking problem that effects one out of every eight Americans who uses alcohol suffers from the chronic, severe, and devastating fatal disease known as alcoholism.
What are the treatment options? Professional treatment is often the only way someone can quit drinking
Stages of Alcoholism Drinks too much to feel good. Drinks to get rid of stress.
A Chemical Dependency A Chemical Dependency Alcoholism is a form of chemical dependency. In this case, the chemical or drug upon which one becomes dependent is alcohol
Signs of Alcoholism Signs of alcoholism are easy to spot during the time it takes for the disease to develop. The following questions highlight some of the early signs of alcoholism. They can help you find out if you or someone you know has a problem with alcohol.
What is alcohol abuse? Alcohol abuse is a disease. It is characterized by a maladaptive pattern of drinking alcohol that results in negative work, medical, legal, educational, and/or social effects on a person's life.
