Nutrition Vocabulary

QuestionAnswer
What is Nutrition? the process of providing or obtaining the food necessary for health and growth.
What are Carbohydrates? any of a large group of organic compounds occurring in foods and living tissues and including sugars
What are Proteins? Nutrients used to repair body cells and tissues
What are Amino Acids? a organ compound
What are Saturated Fats? Fats that are solid at room tempature
What are Fats? Nutrients that supply energy, keep the skin healthy, and promote normal growth.
What are vitamins? Substances that help to regulate the body's functions.
What are Minerals? Nutrients that strengthen bones and teeth, help keep blood healthy , and keep the heart and other organs working properly.
What is Fiber? The part pf grains, fruits , and vegetables that the body cannot break down.
What is Cholesterol? A waxy substance used by the body to build cells and make other substances.
What is Sodium? a soft silver white metal
What is Caffeine? a crystalline that is found esp mostly in tea and coffee.
What are Calories? units of heat that measures the energy available in foods.
