What is a respiratory emergency? Consious choking
What is respiratory distress? When someone is struggling to get air in.
What are signs someone is choking? Coughing forcefully or holding their throat.
What do you do when someone is choking? Tell them to keep coughing. Have someone call 9-1-1. Stay with them.
Why do you tell someone to keep coughing? They may be able to cough the object back up on their own. When they are coughing they are still getting air in their lungs.
Whay call 9-1-1? Even if they are coughing and getting air they might stop getting air at aome point. They may have also damaged their airway with the object they where choking on.
What is a situation called when the person stops coughing? Respiratory arrest situation
When a respiratory situation is in effect, what do you do? You start the life saving techniques used when someone's airway is completely blocked.
When in the respiratory arrest situation, what do you do before touching someone? Say your name. Say your trained. Ask if you can help.
What is the 5 and 5 technique? 5 abdominal thrusts and 5 black blows
What if the person becomes unconsious at any point during the time you are trying to get the object out? You lock your arms under your arms and slowly lower them to the ground, watching out for their head.
What is respiratory arrest? Someone is not getting any air.
Where do you give abdonminal thrusts? The diaphragm
What does CPR stand for? CardioPulmonary Resuscitation
