| What is Respiratory Distress? | When someone is struggling for air. |
| What do you do when some one is choking? | Tell them to keep coughing Call 9-1-1 Stay with them |
| Why should you tell someone to keep coughing? | when they cough, maybe they can cough the item they are choking on up. |
| Why do you need to call 9-1-1? | They could stop getting air at some point and they damage their airways. |
| What is respiratory arrest? | When the person stops coughing and can no longer get air into the airways. |
| What do you do when someone goes into respiratory arrest? | You would need to start the life saving procedure the heimlich maneuver. |
| When saving a person what do you need? | You need to gain expressed consent. |
| When gained consent what position do you put yourself into to begin saving them? | You put yourself to the side of them and have your foot next to theirs and put your other leg behind them so you can catch them if they go unconsious. |
| What else do you do to save them? | You put your arm across their chest and bend them over so that their head is parallel to the floor. |
| When you try do dislodge the item while they're bent over what do you do? | You place the heel of your hand inbetween their shoulder blades and give 5 back blows. |
| If doing the back blows right, what should you hear? | You should hear a hollow sound. |
| If the item wasn't dislodged after the back blows, what next? | You stand them back up and place yourself behind them again, find their naval and place two fingers above it, make a fist and place your thumb against the stomach, reach around with your other hand and hold the fist. |
| What do you do after you hold the fist? | You give 5 quick upperthrust to the diaphragm. |
| What is the diaphragm? | A muscle located below the lungs and above the stomach. |
| When doing the Heimlich Maneuver what do you do? | You continue doing the 5 back blows and 5 upperthrust until the item is dislodged, or the person becomes unconsious. |
| What if they become unconscious? | Lock your arms under their shoulders and pull them toward your body and support their body and head until you lay them gently on the ground. |
