nuva ring counseling

QuestionAnswer
1) wash hands with soap and warm water, dry thoroughly be clean
2)remove the ring from the foil package take it out
3)hold the ring between your thumb and index finger hold it
4)lay down, squat, or stand with one leg up and push the sides of the ring together position yourself and fold it
5)gently push the folded ring into the vagina put it in
6)If you feel discomfort continue to push the ring into the vagina push until comfortable
7) there is no exact position for the ring to be effective however you put it in is fine
8)Keep inserted for 3 weeks. Check occasionally to make sure the ring is high in the vagina 3 weeks in, high in tract
9) wash hands and remove the ring 3 weeks after insertion on the same day that you inserted it take out after 3 weeks on the same day of the week
10)Hook your index finger under the forward rim or hold the rim between your index and middle finger
11) gently pull out the ring and dispose in the waste. Do not throw into the toilet. Wash hands. You should get your period 2-3 days later
12) reinsert a new ring 1 week after the last one was removed. If you have your period you should still insert the ring
13)you should use a backup for the first 7 days
14) common side effects: vaginal infections, irritation, vaginal secretion, weight gain, headaches, nausea
15) call your provider if you experience any of the following: abdominal pain, chest pain/SOB, headaches, eye changes (blurred vision, flashing lights, blindness), severe leg pain
Does not protect against HIV and other STDs
Store in a cool, dry place for up to 4 months
