Aesculus hippocastanum Horse-chestnut -opposite -really big buds -and they are sticky too like populus x canadensis but these are more round -stout twig and big'ol terminal bud.
Prunus virginiana Chokecherry -small sharp buds -alternate -lenticels present -'diverging slightly from twig'
Quercus robur English Oak -alternate -clusterbuds at terminal -not to be confused with Syringa genus which have diuble terminal bud
Populas x canadensis Carolina Poplar -alternate -twig and bugs very similar Populus balsamifera -blonde twig with a heluva lot of huge sticky buds that smell like cinnamon
Pinus Sylvestris Scots Pine -needles twist around themselves
Picea pungens Blue Spruce -colour green to really blue -cones not as lone as picea abies
Picea abies Norway Spruce -like blue spruce but needles dont hurt as much when a bough is grabbed -droopy branches
Pinus nigra Austrian Pine -2 needle clusters -needles are sharper and stiffer than Pinus resinosa -needles a darker colour that Pr
Ginkgo biloba Ginkgo -wicked stout twig with dwarf shoots
Platanus x acerfolia London planetree -very obviously alternate -blonde zigzag twig that has a kink at each bud -imagine Fagus grandifolia and scrunch up buds and make twig and bud wicked yellow -trivia: our penny features this twig and leaf designed by KG some 30yrs pre flag
Pyrus calleryana Callery pear -alternate -terminal buds large -covered with light brown hair
Celtis occidentalis Hackberry -buds closely spaced -alternate -no terminal bud -buds flattened on sides and pointy at ends
Syringa vulgaris Common Lilac -opposite - similar to Syringa reticulata but no lenticels are immediately apparent -double terminal bu
Malus............ Flowering crab apple -alternate -hairy buds -dwarf shoots but not to be confused with Ginkgo biloba which has auper stout twigs and dwarf shoots -known for epicormic branching(epidermal meristem)

Acer negundo Manitoba Maple -opposite -twigs on fresh samples may have an easily removed waxy grey finish -round blunt bunts -to remember Scientific name: this Acer has compound leaf which kinda negates is maple status. negate=Acer negundo
Acer saccharum Really? its a conifer with 10-15" needles and is know for uprooting itself to crawl the earth in seek of better growing conditions...read a freakin book.
