| Expectorant | A drug that liquefies and dilutes viscid secretions of the respiratory tract, aiding in their evacuation |
| Humidification | The process of adding moisture to inspired air, often in the nasal cavity |
| IgA | An antibody that contributes to the defensive qualities of the mucociliary apparatus by immobilizing or phagocytizing foreign material |
| Inspissated | Thickened or dried, often referring to respiratory mucus |
| Mucolytic | A drug that decreases the viscosity of respiratory secretions by altering their chemical composition |
| Nebulization | Similar to aerosolization, the process of administering drugs as a fine mist for inhalation |
| Nonproductive cough | A dry cough that does not produce mucus or phlegm |
| Productive cough | A cough that produces mucus or phlegm |
| Reverse sneeze | A protective reflex that involves forceful expulsion of foreign material, often occurring in response to irritation in the respiratory passages |

| Viscid | Having a thick, sticky consistency, often referring to secretions |
