TermDefinition
Visual Communication any attempt to reach us through our eyes, whether it is a roadside billboard or a flier posted for a meeting, or gestures and body language
Visual aid anything used to communicate visually
simplicity key component of visual aid design; the fewer the elements on the page screen, the easier it is for your audience to understand and recall your message
unity how all of a message's elements tie together visually; a message with good unity is one where all of its visual elements complement each other
emphasis key component of visual aid design; focuses the audience's attention to a specific place on a poster, exhibit, or slide
readability the ease or difficulty with which the reader can understand your writing
organization in visual aid design, use of a logical visual pattern the is easy to comprehend
balance in document design, involves imagining a line dividing a page either vertically or horizontally and then placing visual elements so they are either symmetrically balanced or asymmetrically balanced
symmetrical balance mirror-image balance; occurs when all the visual elements on one side of the page are mirrored on the other side; also called formal balance
asymmetrical balance occurs when several smaller items on one side of an imaginary line dividing a page either vertically or horizontally are balanced by a large item on the other side, or smaller items are placed further away from the center of the screen than larger items
accuracy all text is spelled and punctuated correctly; sentences are grammatically correct; all names are correct
parallelism items in a group match one another; for example, if you first bulleted items begin with a verb, so must all the others
clarity in visual aid design, the presentation of only one main ides, so that people know - even at a glance- what your poster, display, or computer slide is about
